Ingmar Bergman, the Legendary Swedish self taught film director, has died at the age of 89. He passed away at his home on Faro Island, off the coast of south-east Sweden, in the Baltic Sea where he had lived since the 1960's.
Ingmar Bergman was born on July 14th, 1918 in Uppsala, Sweden, the son of a clergyman. He won three Academy Awards for Best Foreign Film in 1960, 1961 and 1983.
The director was married five times and he fathered nine children including one, Linn, with actress Liv Ullmann.
Bergman made 54 films often based on mortality, loneliness and sexual torment. Well known titles include: Cries and Whispers, Face to Face, Shame, Autumn Sonata (with Ingrid Bergman), The Passion of Anna and Wild Strawberries - the photo was taken during production of this film.
