BBC Fined £50,000 Despite Konnie Huq Apology

Konnie Huq Blue Peter PresenterThe BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) have been fined £50,000 (about $100,000) for basically fiddling a phone-in competition to the Blue Peter television programme.

Almost 40,000 children telephoned the BBC show's phone line in November 06 to win a toy. There was a technical fault and, therefore, no caller could be selected. A girl in the studio was then picked out and given the correct answer and became the 'prize winner'.

When this all first came to light Konnie Huq, a Blue Peter presenter at the time, gave an on air apology. The television watchdog Ofcom still ordered the corporation to pay the £50,000.
